Diary 6/11/15

I have a new mantra, "clip the blackberries". I think if something catastrophic happened, and we were all swept away, blackberries would take over this place. If I don't clip them, dig them, or burn them, they will do so while I am still here. So I have vowed to clip some blackberry canes everyday until I have eliminated some of the ones encroaching into my space. The rest of the world is on its own. The other activity of this sort I have been engaging in daily is removing bur chervil plants when I see them. They have little round stickers that get all over your socks and if they get into the washer, they are distriibuted throughout your laundry, but often on the elastic of underwear. Devil weed!

Diary 9/28/11

Egads!!! The weather is predicted to make a big change next week.  I narrowed down my Wed. delivery for next week and I can see I better lay a few customers off next Friday. I have a few things stored to sell, but I would like to be adding other produce from the greenhouses to the bags; something other than winter squash! There are onions that are not going to finish in time.  The cool spring robbed them of two weeks.  Not sure what is on the other side of this rain event, but hopefully a blue sky or cloudy day or two so that I can pick more berries! Off to pick huckleberries tomorrow. Last chance for that one maybe. A drive to a new place sounds relaxing-even if there are a million things I could be doing; raspberries in the garden and blackberries in the yard, for instance. One literally can't do it all at this point in the harvest, but that's a good thing-Martha.

Diary 8/23/11

Busy day harvesting for 18 bags tomorrow.  Also seems like every bed wanted water at the same time, so I ran around trying to get everyone at least a small drink with a promise of more soon. Wild blackberries are ripening.  There is a nice patch in the cherry orchard(that really should not be there) that has been pruned and received some inadvertent watering. Picking blackberries is not as thrilling when there are raspberries and strawberries to pick also, but I will certainly give it a try for a few gallons.  They are some of the best anti-oxidants and yummy.
