Diary 5/19/14

This Salmon Berry hedge is located in our orchard under a Gravenstein apple tree which until my son branched the large Douglas Fir trees above was way too shady. Now the whole area is standing tall this year with the new sunlight they are receiving. Maybe they will even make berries, not that they ever have much flavor, but they are the black bear's favorite to eat, leaves and all. (Not that I want to lure in any black bears!)

Diary 12/13/11

Made 4 batches of berry jam yesterday; strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry.  Still have boysenberries and huckleberries to jam up.  I freeze berries all summer when life is busy and then make jam this time of year for presents.  Now, to label and decorate the jars.  Fun!

Diary 8/4/11

BERRIES 101:  First you find a berry, any color will do.  Then you grab it with your fist.  Then you separate out the berry from whatever else you picked, and you eat it!
