Diary 1/28/15

We were talking about this on Facebook the other day, so I thought I would post it here. This is my writing area, though sometimes I write on the dining room table. Serene, romantic(except for the mirror which is somewhat existential~).Then this is my desk-chaotic, messy, with a basket full of things to attend to and a map of how to get there...

1/21/15

We are a full month past the Winter Solstice and gaining on daylight quickly. I notice it in the longer afternoons. We are lucky to be in the sunshine each of these cold, clear days. Twelve miles down the road it is foggy, dreary, and  the kind of m,oist cold that permeates the bones. There is to be days of this weather, so I have plans to get those greenhouses ready for early plantings. Don't want those gophers to go hungry!

Diary 1/18/15

My readership is down on this blog, probably because as a garden blog, it is starting to fail. As a sample of my life, it continues. Along with my move from farmer to lots of other hats; grama (wife, mother), writer, builder, potter, I will always have a garden.
But I find myself dreaming of roses instead of spinach, of zinnias instead of hot peppers. With the gopher problems and the relentless deer, I have moved into the greenhouse and containers in there, to boot. Changes all around. For those who still visit me here, I will still post, but not as frequently. For those who want to see what is next for me, I have a new domain, sarahammondgardenstories.com where I am telling the tale of my journey as a writer. I also have purchased the domain, gardenersdaughterstory.com for my book. I am hoping to epublish soon, so I will chirp up about that when it happens, here, there, and everywhere.

Diary 1/16/15

Went to look for firewood trees. For $10 for 5 cords( a cord is the volume of wood that fits in an 4'x8'x4'tall space) per family, the Forest Service will give you a permit to cut down a dead tree that is along a road and would fall into that road making it a danger tree. These trees are not so rotten that a cavity nesting bird want to use them. There are plenty more like them in the interior of the forest, and the dry wood burns clear. There is no smoke from your fire once it is burning hot.
Early morning fog just lifting on 6600 road

Diary 1/11/14

Upper falls at seven mile
A bleak day with lots of little kiddos here. I overlapped with a five year old, a three year old, and a twenty month old today. Needless to say, that at my age, I am exhausted! No small task to be a store clerk, a monster, a mother and grandmother in different roles as directed by the three year old, a sister (also from the three year old), an art teacher and of course, myself. Looking forward to another week of fairly good weather before some much needed rain storms arrive. Enjoyed one walk on the "old road" this week with Cheryl and Daphne, taller gals who out paced me 3 to 2, I think! The water was still raging even if down from the near flood stage of a few weeks ago~

Diary 1/7/15

It has been warm and dry the last few days. The day starts out foggy, but luckily for us, the fog burns off. Not so for people down in the valley where I went this morning and didn't put long johns on...Cold! Nice of the pansies to join me on these beautiful days~
